We recently visited the Denver aquarium, and one exhibit that always seems to catch our eye is the seahorse display. They are just such unique and beautiful creatures. Many people know that the male seahorse actually carry the babies, but did you know that seahorses swim upright? They propel themselves forward by rapidly fluttering their dorsal fin (around 35 times a second, in fact) and they steer by using the pectoral fins behind their ears. Because of this seahorse aren’t the most graceful of swimmers, which is why they are usually found close to coral. See! The more you know, the cooler they seem.
This fun pattern teaches you how to make your very own seahorse stuffed animal. Then, it teaches you how to make a baby seahorse for your seahorse stuffed animal! The pattern walks you through adding a pocket to the tummy of the big seahorse to hold the baby. Seriously, it just keeps getting cuter! This is a great pattern for beginning or intermediate sewers. It’ll teach you how to sew pleats, how to create a pocket, and how to join the front and back using a gusset. This cute little critter will make a great friend for any one.
